Noah Barleywater runs away...

This is the book that my group is reading at the moment for literacy. It is a fiction book. The main character is Noah Barleywater. He has no mum anymore and runs away from his home because he thinks he hasn't had enough achievements. He meets a talking dog and a talking donkey. He also meets a lot of angry puppets. He stays with an old man that sculpts wood and listens to a story that he tells. In the end, he does go home.

My new job...

In our class we have jobs. Not real jobs but jobs like cleaning the class and stacking the chairs. We have jobs on banqer. My job is the bank's helper. There are 3 bank helpers. They are Jason, Max, and I. When people don't pay the bank or do the wrong thing, the bank helpers come along and take out money. But we also pay people who are doing the right thing. Say the Librarian comes up and says 'So and so have been doing the right thing and have been helping others', the bank helpers would give them some money. I hope you learned a little bit about the banqer jobs. Do you have banqer in your class? Please comment! Thanks!๐Ÿ’ฒ๐Ÿ’ต

Compost assesment๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜

W.A.L.T. To create a form about composting.
My favorite part was changing the style of the form and actually doing the form.
The most challenging bit was putting it onto a new post on my blog because I didn't know how to.
You learn something new every day!
You can fill out the form yourself!

Potatoe chips

W.A.L.T. To make chips. We made the microwave version.
  1. Pour the vegetable oil into a plastic bag (a produce bag works well).        Add the potato slices, and shake to coat.
  2. Coat a large dinner plate lightly with oil or cooking spray. Arrange potato slices in a single layer on the dish.
  3. Cook in the microwave for 3 to 5 minutes

I enjoyed cutting the chips, but I didn’t enjoy cutting myself!

Hokey pokey

W.A.L.T. Explain the science in the hokey pokey.

We made hokey pokey. When we added the baking soda it all started frothing up because it released air into the mixture. I enjoyed getting to make hokey pokey because I like cooking. I found it challenging not to burn it. To improve it we could dip it in chocolate.

Transformation with grids

Today we found an accredited image on Explore and selected it to use on our page. We then put a 5x5 grid on it so we could copy the image and make it original. Mrs. Minehan selected the first two images so we could understand the process, then we got to choose our own image.
I found the first one kind of hard, because I couldn't get the lines straight.
The second one was a tree and it was very challenging because of the shape and the shading.
I chose the image of a moon for the other one because I had to shade bits and get the shape perfect.
Have you ever tried to transform an image using a grid? How did you find the process? Was it hard?

How to play last card

How to play last card

You’ll need: 1 pack of normal cards, with no Jokers.

Card values (highest-lowest): No properties 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, Jack, Queen, King, pickup 2, pickup 5, miss a turn 10, change direction 7 and change the suit Ace.

Goal: to be the first person to get rid of all your cards.

Deal everybody 5-7 cards
The dealer starts. He/she flips over the top card on the deck and tries to match it with he/she’s hand. Say the card is a 7 of diamonds, he/she can play either a 7 or a diamond. If he/she does not have a card like that, or an Ace, they have to pick up a card and wait till their next turn. Then it's the next person's turn, and so on.
If someone plays a 2, you can either match it with 2, a five or pickup 2. If you match it the next person has to pick up the number of cards it added up to.
When someone has only one card left, they say “Last card”. If someone else goes before they say it, they have to pick up 2 cards. If they do say it and get rid of it on the next turn, they win.

My favorite bit was throwing it because we challenged each other.

This is our plane, the Airslicer 2000.

My mini house

W.A.L.T: To make and draw the inside of a mini house.

I found this challenging because not all of the furniture fit inside the first time, so I had to change things around.
My favorite bit was drawing and coloring in, even though it was challenging.

This is the inside of my mini house.

This is the outside of my mini house.

My MyMaps of Wellington

We learned how to use Google MyMaps and then we got to look closely at our own environment and locate landmarks. For each landmark we found we had to name it, write something about it and find an image of it so that the pin on our map had information on it. This is my finished map of Wellington. Have you ever used MyMaps to locate places in your community?
