Pigpen Cipher Slide (SLJ)

This is my pigpen cipher slide. I had to learn the code, then decipher the clue to the cave. After all that, I didn't know where the lion rock was, so I had to search for what it was. After I was totally sure I knew the code, I had to make my own clue to my favorite beach. I love this beach because I love swimming and playing in the river by it. Comment what you think the beach is.

The hardest bit was drawing the letters because I had to use a special drawing tool on the slide. My favorite bit was looking at my favorite beaches because they were all so much more pretty in photos than in real life. To be BTB, (Better Than Before), I could have added more information on the beach.

Which doesn't Belong? (SLJ)

This is my slide for 'Which doesn't belong?' SLJ. I had to think of reasons why the pictures didn't belong with the others/ were different from the others. You didn't only have to do one reason, you could do multiple because since they were all different pictures, they were all different.

My favorite part was finding the donuts, and I got very hungry at the end. The hardest part was doing the reasons for the spaceship/fighter slide because they were all similar except for the colors. To be BTB, (Better Than Before), I could have added more reasons to the slides.

My Summer Haiku (SLJ) 🇳🇿🌅

This is my summer haiku for the SLJ 2020. I wasn't sure if this was the activity I was supposed to do, but I did it anyway. It was cool looking at the other summer haikus because they gave me some ideas.

My favorite part was making the haiku because it was oddly satisfying when I made the sentences have the correct amount of syllables. The hardest part was actually making the haiku because I kept doing the wrong sentence or things like that. To be BTB, (Better Than Before), I could have made another haiku or made this one more interesting.

Summer Patterns

This is my 3rd Summer Learning Journey activity. I had to do the things that the summer learning journey site said.

My pattern represents the waves and ocean. I was going to do a fern pattern, but it turned out to be terrible. To me, when I think of NZ summer, I think of barbeques, beaches, Christmas, and my birthday. My favorite thing about summer is swimming in the sea and in our school pool.

The hardest bit was making the background for the waves. Since I did it on Kleki, I made the background on a different layer so that the blue was behind the black. I wanted it to be a bit more gradient, but it didn't really work. My favorite part was looking at Maori wave patterns. To be BTB, I could have added more waves.

Fishy False Teeth

This is my first proper activity for the Summer Learning Journey. I'm really excited about the activities because they look really interesting. This activity was based on a real event in the Netherlands.

It was hard to make sense of the story at first because I got the characters and their roles mixed up. After I read the story a few times, it became easier to understand. The most fun part was doing the comic. It was funny to watch the video as well because it was different from the article, but based on it. To be BTB, I could have added more detail to the slides.

My Colouring Book Activity

This is my first activity for the Summer Learning Journey. I first did her with black hair and a red and green kimono because I was listening to Santa, Tell Me, and other Christmas songs while my classmates were singing and dancing along (not very well). Then, because my favorite color is purple, I changed it. I don't really like the background because it doesn't look very natural.

I think my favorite part was coloring because I like art and mucking around. The hardest part was doing the flowers because they were all separate. To be BTB, I could have searched up color schemes and then used them, but I had a limited amount of colors I could use.

Week 2. Day 3. Activity 2. The right to an education.

Activity 2. The right to an education.
Turtle invent jetpacks

One day, Turtle was walking along the street, when a red blur hurtled straight past him. It was Fox! Turtle slowly ran up to him. "Why do you always run so fast!" he panted. "Why do you always run so slow!" chuckled Fox. Turtle grumbled. Then he had a bright idea! He would create something even Fox couldn't keep up with! You see, Turtle was an inventor. That's why his shell was always on his back. It was one of his inventions. He turned around and went home. Through the night, his neighbors could hear banging and clanking. Here we go again, they thought. The next day, when Fox was making his daily run around the neighborhood, a green blur sped straight past him. He was so surprised that he skidded to a stop. Was that what he thought it was? it couldn't be! It was Turtle, with a new invention on his back. He stopped in front of Fox and waved. Then he was gone.
The end.

Week 2. Day 2. Activity 3. "I have a dream".

Activity 3. "I have a dream".
The problem is that white people are being treated better than black people, even though they shouldn't be treated better. Rosa Parks thought that it wasn't fair so in 1955 she reacted and got sent to jail for "refusing to listen to the law". When she was arrested, all the other black people refused to travel on buses so that the buses were empty. In 1956, the law was finally changed so that black people had to be treated the same as white people.

Week 2. Day 1. Activity 3. Dear Jacinda.

Activity 3. Dear Jacinda.

Dear Jacinda,
I strongly believe that we should have a reusing plastic deposit somewhere in New Zealand. We could also have a Compost truck in most regions and start a new soft plastics company.

A reusing plastic deposit would be better for the environment because we would be recycling things. People could deposit milk bottles, egg cartons, and all those things, and we could give them to companies and they could reuse them for more milk and more eggs. It would also be good because then we could stop making plastic for all the products and spend less money. Other countries might catch on to the idea and then they would start having their own reusing plastics deposit.

Also, compost trucks could go alongside the rubbish trucks and recycling trucks. A lot of our rubbish could actually be recycled or composted, and it would be a lot better for our natural environment.

We could also start up another soft plastics company, where we turn all soft plastics into useful objects, like benches for communities and tables and chairs for schools, that way, we still have all our useful objects, but it is recycled from soft plastic.

All of this will help the environment survive, and also help us survive.

From a Paroa student.

Week 2. Day 1. Activity 2. No name.

Activity 2. No name
If she was born on the 7th of April, 1985, and she got the award on the 9th of July 2010, then there was 25 years in between her birth date and her award reception. This means she was 25 when she received her award. The difference between April the 7th and July 7th is 3 months and the difference between 7 and 9 is 2. So the answer is 25 yrs, 3 months and 2 days!
Was I correct?

Week 2. Day 1. Activity 1. Playing Favorites

If I had 9 siblings...

If I had 9 siblings...

If I had 9 siblings I wouldn't like it because I would have to share lots of things. If I wanted to go on a thing on TV and all my other siblings wanted to go on something else, I would be outvoted. Also, it would be very loud, day and night.

If I was the oldest of 10 children, I would like it a bit more because, well, I would be the oldest. Also, I would get to push them around a bit. It would also be bad because I would have to babysit them when our parents went out.

If I was the youngest, I would HATE it. I would get pushed around and teased, and I would probably get all the blame. But I would probably get all the attention from Mum and Dad.
Good attention and bad

And that's my having 9 siblings.

My dream job

                        My dream job

My dream job is... to be a singer or to write songs

It's all in a days work

                                It's all in a day's work

2 similar things about our homes now and wharepuni are: They both have a roof to cover the inside and they both have at least 1 or 2 windows.

2 different things about our homes now and wharepuni are: wharepuni's roofs are lower and our houses have an actual door, not just an opening.
