Week 2. Day 1. Activity 3. Dear Jacinda.

Activity 3. Dear Jacinda.

Dear Jacinda,
I strongly believe that we should have a reusing plastic deposit somewhere in New Zealand. We could also have a Compost truck in most regions and start a new soft plastics company.

A reusing plastic deposit would be better for the environment because we would be recycling things. People could deposit milk bottles, egg cartons, and all those things, and we could give them to companies and they could reuse them for more milk and more eggs. It would also be good because then we could stop making plastic for all the products and spend less money. Other countries might catch on to the idea and then they would start having their own reusing plastics deposit.

Also, compost trucks could go alongside the rubbish trucks and recycling trucks. A lot of our rubbish could actually be recycled or composted, and it would be a lot better for our natural environment.

We could also start up another soft plastics company, where we turn all soft plastics into useful objects, like benches for communities and tables and chairs for schools, that way, we still have all our useful objects, but it is recycled from soft plastic.

All of this will help the environment survive, and also help us survive.

From a Paroa student.

  2. Good morning!

Wow Miro! This is incredible! You have written such a thoughtful letter! You have some really good ideas to help our environment!

Starting up a reusing plastic deposit would be very clever! You’re right, it would stop the need to make new milk bottles, etc, if we could send them back to the companies! I’m sure lots of different containers and bottles could be reused this way. I really like this idea!

A compost truck would also be such a good idea! We make so many food scraps when we cook, it would be good if they could get collected just like rubbish and recycling. What do you think they would do with the compost once it has been collected? Where do you think it could get put? I wonder if it could go into community gardens?

From the looks of it NZ already has a soft plastics collection system! They collect soft plastics and use it to make buckets, fences, and even water slides! Here is the link to their website if you would like to read more. https://www.recycling.kiwi.nz/solutions/soft-plastics

This is such an amazing post! It is so cool to see how much you thought about this letter. Well done Miro!

    1. Hi Matilda! Thanks for your comment. I suspected that they had started a soft plastics company, but I didn't know if they still were opperating.

For the compost question, I reackon that if people wanted to collect compost for their gardens they could come to a place where they dumped all the composts collected and just take some home! That way, we are helping the planet in both ways!
We could place each of these so called "compost heap's" all around NZ so that you wouldn't have to travel all around the country just to get some compost.
      Also, thanks for the link.
