Maths DLO

WALT: To present a DLO to the class teaching them how to do maths.

This is my DLO (Digital Learning Object). I had to present it to the class with Lucy.

I chose to do short division because I already knew how to do it so it was easier to write about.

The hardest part was explaining it to the class because I don't like reading things out loud. My favourite part was choosing the backgrounds and the layout and when it was over. To be BTB, Better than Before, how to do division with a remainder.

Maths Challenge Cards

This is my Basic Facts Challenge Cards slide. I had to complete each slide, but I didn't complete the last one because it was too hard. I did try it a few times but got just too annoyed.

This wasn't too hard, except for the last slide. You just had to take a while. My favourite slide was slide number four. You had to use the numbers 1 to 9 and try to make a number close to 1500. I got 1495. To be BTB, Better Than Before, I could have added more of an explanation to each of my answers.

Paralympic Maths

This is a maths activity I did about the Paralympics. I had to present the information in a graph or chart.
The hardest part was figuring out how to actually make the graph. Once I'd figured that out, I changed a few settings and it was easy.
My favorite part was changing the looks of the graph. To be BTB, I could have made the writing bigger.

Delta Questions

These are the five questions I would ask Jacinda Ardern and/or Ashley Bloomfield about Delta Outbreak if I ever got the chance.

The hardest part about this was actually thinking about it and seeing what I would actually want to know. I don't really know much because I haven't really researched it. My favorite part about this was reading a few articles about it. They were cool because you could see what other people were doing, and see what you would do. To be BTB, Better Than Before, I could have added more colour or added research about the questions.

My Board Game

This is my board game for technology at the Grey High that Lucy and I are making. We are in Digi Tech this term, and are making little 3D printed animals to use as the "players". It's really simple: You roll a dice, go forward, and do what the square you land on says! If you land on a purple square and take a card, you do what the card says. Some cards say "Take another turn", and others say "Go backwards 3".

My favourite part of making this was making the little 3D animals. We have a gecko, a fox, a dolphin, and a duck. We coloured them in with felt pens so they look more realistic. The hardest part was cutting out each and every card. We had 30, and they all were really fiddly to cut out. To be BTB, Better Than Before, we could have added more spaces or made the game harder because it looks really easy.

5 Ideal Careers

These are 5 of the ideal jobs I want for my career. They are number one to five, the higher the number, the more I want the job. I first had to watch a video about fantasy, ideal and realistic jobs. All of my jobs here are ideal, bordering on fantasy. ;w;

This was hard because I had to think of some other jobs other than singer and artist. Also, we didn't have too much time to get this finished, and I wanted to get on with some of my other art. >w<
To be BTB, Better Than Before, I could have added more pro's and con's to all of my chosen careers.

9. Singer

Pro’s:

  • I would get to do what I like to do

  • I already have some experience singing

  • I would be backed up by my family

Cons:

  • Hard to find paid work

  • Would probably need another part-time job

  • Would have to deal with criticism

Why would it suit me? I already do some singing and I enjoy it.

What qualifications do you need? Preferably a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Music or Performing Arts.

8. Digital Artist

Pro’s:

  • I would be doing what I want to do

  • It would be easier because I already have a bit of experience drawing digitally

Cons:

  • Hard to get paid

What qualifications do you need? It is preferred to have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.

7. Animator

Pro’s:

  • I would be doing what I like

  • It wouldn’t be too pressuring

Cons:

  • Hard to find paid work

  • Hard to get hired and well known

Why would it suit me? I like drawing, and being an Animator would mean drawing.

What qualifications do you need? None, but it is preferred to have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.

6. Animal Rescuer

Pro’s:

  • I get to rescue animals

  • I can meet a lot of new people

Three Job Profiles

This year, we are working on careers. I had to read three different articles about three different jobs, then make job profiles about each different job in the article.
The hardest part would definitely have to be making the layout correct because I really suck at coding. Miro G helped me a lot. My favorite part was looking at some of Dylan Horrocks's comics because I read an article about him. To be BTB, I could have added pictures.

Comic Writer Job Profile

Comic Writers have to:

Be creative
Be passionate about their job
Persevere; Not give in
Be good at writing interesting stories so that people will actually read their comics
Be good at planning layouts
Have some kind of drawing skill
Have confidence in themselves and others

NASA Aerospace Engineer Job Profile

NASA aerospace engineers have to:

Great Walks of NZ! 🤗🇳🇿

This is my Great Walks slide for our Current Events quiz. We did the quiz with Miss Farr. Green house got 14 points and tied first place with Blue House.

We had to research the 10 great walks in 45 minutes. 45 MINUTES! This may sound like a lot, but it sure isn't. We also had free time on the line. If everyone had finished their slides, we could all choose what we wanted to do for the next blocks. I just finished in time, but other people hadn't.

I enjoyed looking at the fake pictures of the tracks because they were prettier than the real ones. The hardest part would definitely have to be posting this on time because there was so much PRESSURE! To be BTB, better than before, I could have added more to my writing.

Careers

This is my writing for Careers and Literacy. I had to read an article and then pick 5 jobs. I chose Medical Doctor, Year 1 to 13 Teacher, Dentist, Veterinarian, and Chef.

I enjoyed looking for jobs. The hardest part was writing more than I wanted to write. To be BTB, I could have added more to my writing.

1. Medical Doctor

What is it? A doctor who works to maintain, restore or boost health. They treat and diagnose injuries and diseases.

Facts Why: Everywhere, there is a shortage of doctors. We now need a lot more because of Covid, and the doctors we already have are working 24/7. Being a doctor also pays well, with a median salary of around $92,00.

What has changed since 2019? Covid. We need a lot more doctors to care for not only people with Covid/Covid Symptoms but also for people that are just hurt or sick.

2. Year 1 to 13 Teacher

What is it? A person who teaches children from 5 to 18.

Facts Why: We have a huge shortage of teachers. Although Media is saying that teachers are underpaid, data shows that their starting salary is reasonable. Also, many teachers are satisfied and happy with their day-to-day routine.

What has changed since 2019? A lot of teachers are working online now because of Covid.

3. Dentist

What is it? A person who works around mouths and teeth. They are feared by a lot of kids.

Facts Why: We always need people to care for our teeth and mouths. They are also paid very well.

What has changed since 2019? Not much. Kids are still afraid of getting their teeth pulled out.

4. Veterinarian

What is it? A person who works to help, heal and care for animals. They are like a doctor except for animals.

Facts Why: There has been a reported shortage of vets across the country. Vets are also paid well, and normally do what they do because they enjoy it.

What has changed since 2019? Not much. People are still taking their pets to the vet, and everything is running smoothly so far.

5. Chef

What is it? A person who cooks meals for other people in public places, eg, a restaurant.

Facts Why: You can cook food for people, and normally if you become a chef, it is because you enjoy cooking. It is also a well paid job, and you can travel a lot of places.

What has changed since 2019? People will be more likely to eat out now that covid has died down a bit, or in other countries, people will be less likely to eat out because Covid is still large.

You Went Where

This is my You Went Where slide from a year ago that I forgot to blog. ;w;  I had to choose a place and write about it from the day point of view and the night point of view. I had been to Lake Brunner the previous weekend, so I wrote about that.

The hardest part was changing from the day to the night without making a new paragraph. My favorite part was putting in the backgrounds. To be BTB, I could have made my writing longer, but this was me a year ago.

Electricity

This is my energy inquiry. I had to choose something to do with energy then make a informative slide and a creative thing to do with whatever our topic was. We could work in pairs, but I didn't, so it made it harder. I chose to do electricity because I wanted to make a bike-powered charger, but I didn't have enough time. The first topic I chose was Hydro-energy, but it was too hard to create a thing explaining/showing what Hydro-energy was.

The hardest part was reading it out to the class because I'm not really good at that stuff. To be BTB, I could have made my slide more interesting. I wanted to draw something to do with electricity and how it worked, but I couldn't think of anything.

Scott Base

Today we did the Current Events Quiz. I got 9 out of 20 correct. After we did the quiz, we had to choose one of the answers to research and make a drawing out of. I didn't know what to choose at first, but in the end, I chose Scott Base. Did you know that people can visit it? That's something I want to do, along with seeing the Southern Lights and Penguins!  We had to do this in 45 minutes, and we also had to plan, draft, edit, and proofread.

Scott Base is a New Zealand research base in Antarctica. It is at the southern end of Ross Island. You can see penguins, the Aurora Australis and lots of snow there!

I really enjoyed looking at pictures of Scott Base, The Southern Lights, and Antarctica. The hardest part was finding and fitting information onto the google drawing. Also doing all of this in 45 minutes. It may sound easy, but it was actually really hard! To be BTB, Better Than Before, I could have added more information about the founder and looks.

"WE NEED YOU" Poster

This is my third and final thing for literacy. I had to make a poster recruiting Maori soldiers to the army. The face looks really weird, and it's not the best I have done, but it's okay. I didn't have enough space for the exclamation mark at the end of "YOU", which is sad.

My favorite part was making the whole poster. Anything to do with drawing is fun for me. The hardest part was the background. I tried to blur it, but not too much, and with triangular blur. The hand was also a little bit hard, but I just copied my hand shape. To be BTB, I could have added more detail to the shapes and added guns, onomatopoeia's, and other people.

Poppy GIF

This is my gif. I made the frames on Kleki.com, then I animated them using "Gifmaker".
We had to choose 3 things to do for literacy. This is my second one, and so far, my favorite. For this task, we could either make a poppy out of cardboard, muffin wrappers, and stuff or do an animation/GIF of poppies growing. I didn't have the materials for the "real" poppies, so I did a GIF. To make the GIF, I made 9 or 10 (I can't remember,) frames. Fames are each of those steps you see. They make up a GIF. If you miss a frame, sometimes it looks like there's a part missing in the whole GIF. So, I made the frames. The next step is to animate it. I went onto gifmaker.me, put the frames in sequence, and voila! A perfect GIF! This was the first time I had ever made a GIF, but it wasn't that hard. I will probably do another one, but not with flowers.

My favorite part was drawing the frames. It was a bit hard to do some parts, but it was fun. The hardest part was not missing any frames and making the GIF flow nicely. I did miss a part in between where the flower grows lots of petals and when it opens up. To be BTB, I could have done the poppy growing out of the ground as a seed.

Current Events

Today we did the "Current Events" quiz. My team got 13 out of 20 correct, but we got awarded another pint from the teacher. Everyone else go 13, and we got 14, so we won.

The hardest part was the actual quiz. The questions were hard. My favorite part was researching the "Lost city of Gold". To be BTB, I could have added more, but I only had 20 minutes.

ANZAC Morse Code

- .... .. ... / .. ... / -- -.-- / .- -. --.. .- -.-. / .-.. .. - . .-. .- -.-. -.-- / .--. --- ... - .-.-.- / .. / .... .- -.. / - --- / -.-. .... --- --- ... . / --- -. . / - .... .. -. --. / ..-. .-. --- -- / - .... . / - .- .. .- --- / ... .. - . / - --- / -.. --- .-.-.- / .. / -.-. .... --- ... . / - .... . / -- --- .-. ... . / -.-. --- -.. . / -... . -.-. .- ..- ... . / .. - / .-.. --- --- -.- . -.. / .-. . .- .-.. .-.. -.-- / .. -. - . .-. . ... - .. -. --. / .- -. -.. / .. / -.. .. -.. -. .----. - / -.- -. --- .-- / .- -. -.-- - .... .. -. --. / .- -... --- ..- - / .. - / . -..- -.-. . .--. - / ... .-.-.- --- .-.-.- ... / .- -. -.. / .-..-. . .-..-. .-.-.- / -. --- .-- / .. / -.- -. --- .-- / -- -.-- / -. .- -- . / -....- -....- / .-.-.- .-.-.- / .-.-.- -....- .-.-.- / -....- -....- -....- / .- -. -.. / .- / .-.. .. - - .-.. . / -... ..- - / -- --- .-. . .-.-.- / .. ..-. / -.-- --- ..- .-. / -... --- .-. . -.. / .- -. -.. / .-- .- -. - / - --- / -.-. --- -- . / ..- .--. / .-- .. - .... / .- / .-- .- -.-- / - --- / -.-. --- -- -- ..- -. .. -.-. .- - . / .-- .. - .... / -.-- --- ..- .-. / ..-. .-. .. . -. -.. ... --..-- / ..- ... . / -- --- .-. ... . .-.-.- / -.--. --- .-. / .--. .. --. -....- .-.. .- - .. -. .-.-.- -.--.- / .. ..-. / -.-- --- ..- / .-- .- -. - / .- / .-- .- -.-- / - --- / - .- .-.. -.- / .. -. / -.-. .-.. .- ... ... --..-- / .--- ..- ... - / - .- .--. / -.-- --- ..- .-. / -- . ... ... .- --. . / .. -. / -- --- .-. ... . / -.-. --- -.. . / .-- .. - .... / .- / .--. . -. -.-. .. .-.. --..-- / .- -. -.. / -.-- --- ..- .-. / - . .- -.-. .... . .-. / .-- .. .-.. .-.. / -. . ...- . .-. / ... ..- ... .--. . -.-. - / .- / - .... .. -. --. -.-.-- / -.--. .--- -.- .-.-.- -.--.- / -- -.-- / ..-. .- ...- --- .-. .. - . / .--. .- .-. - / .-- .- ... / . -. -.-. .-. -.-- .--. - .. -. --. / - .... . / -- . ... ... .- --. . ... .-.-.- / .. - / .-- .- ... / .-. . .- .-.. .-.. -.-- / .... .- .-. -.. / -... . -.-. .- ..- ... . / - .... . / -- . ... ... .- --. . ... / .-- . .-. . / .-. . .- .-.. .-.. -.-- / .-.. --- -. --. .-.-.- / - .... . / .... .- .-. -.. . ... - / .--. .- .-. - / .-- .- ... / -- .- -.- .. -. --. / - .... . / -- --- .-. ... . / -.-. --- -.. . / .--. .- .-. - .-.-.- / - --- / -... . / -... - -... --..-- / .. / -.-. --- ..- .-.. -.. / .... .- ...- . / .- -.. -.. . -.. / -- --- .-. . / -.-. --- .-.. --- ..- .-. .-.-.-

This is my ANZAC literacy post. I had to choose one thing from the Taiao site to do. I chose the morse code because it looked really interesting and I didn't know anything about it except S.O.S and "e". Now I know my name ~ -- .. .-. --- ~ and a little but more. If your bored and want to come up with a way to communicate with your friends, use Morse. (Or Pig-latin.) If you want a way to talk in class, just tap your message in morse code with a pencil, and your teacher will never suspect a thing! (Jk.)

My favorite part was encrypting the messages. it was really hard because the messages were really long. The hardest part was making the morse code part. To be BTB, I could have added more colour.

Solar Video

This is my (and Lucy's) video about solar energy in our school. We had to find a place in our school that needed a bit more energy/solar energy, then brainstorm and create a model of that place with cardboard or other materials (we used cardboard.) We chose the pool for our place and created the whole area out of a big piece of cardboard, several hot glue sticks, and a vivid marker. We also made bleachers (a fancy name for seats), the changing rooms (where you change, obviously), and the storage/other stuff room (where the heater is).
Some things we added were:
A black floor to the pool (to make it warmer)
Solar tubes in the changing rooms and the storage room
Solar panels to help the heater
Stairs (could we could)

My favorite part was making the actual model. We had to wait for the glue gun though, and that was a long wait. The hardest part was making the video because I couldn't go on the Wevideo video at the same time as Lucy, so it was just all-out confusion. To be BTB, (better than before), we could have taken a picture of the actual pool.

Solar Energy

This is my solar energy post. I had to brainstorm the questions and answer them. The blue writing is "How does the wind and the sun affect your daily life?", and the yellow writing is "What activities do you do that engage the energy of the sun and the wind?".

The hardest part was thinking of ways that the sun affects my daily life. Even though I know it affects my life heaps, I just couldn't think of ways that it did. To be BTB, I think I could have added more to the "How does the wind and sun affect your daily life?" part.

My Energy Word No. 3🌩🗱🗲

This is my third energy word map. Friction is when something rubs against something else, and causes friction. Low drag causes less friction, and high drag causes more. If I rubbed my finger against the carpet, I would create more friction than if I rubbed it against glass.

The hardest part was finding a picture that people would actually understand. The one I put on is OK, but a few people still might not be able to understand it. To be BTB, I could have added more explanation to what friction is.

Thursday, 11 March 2021

My Energy Word No. 2🌩🗱🗲

This is my second energy word map. I did it about potential energy. Potential energy is in everything. If you kicked a ball up a hill, it would gain potential energy at the top of the hill. When it rolled back down again, that potential energy would turn into kinetic energy.

The hardest part was finding a picture. The first picture is really confusing, and I don't get it, but the second picture shows how much potential energy something would have. A would have low potential energy, B would have high potential energy, and C would have low potential energy. To be BTB, I could have added more facts about how potential energy related to energy.

My Energy word No. 1🌩🗱🗲

This is my energy word for T-shaped literacy. I had to choose a word about energy then fill out the google drawing. Not knowing I was supposed to do only one word, I did three. This one was the first one I did. Solar panels are my second favorite way of getting energy. My first is wind turbines.

My favorite part was making the picture. Because I couldn't find any pictures that fitted what I wanted, I had to make one. To be BTB, I could have added more to my definition. The hardest part was saying how it related to energy. It relates in a lot of ways, but I just couldn't put it into words!

🌩Energy Venn Diagram🌩

This is my energy Venn diagram that I made for literacy. I had to read text A and text B then compare them and do the usual Venn diagram stuff. It was really hard to compare them because they didn't really have much actual information.

My favorite part was looking at the Gen Less site because it had some really cool ways to conserve energy and some really different things than what you normally see energy sites. To be BTB, I could have added more to what both of the sites have in common.

Text A - https://www.eia.gov/kids/using-and-saving-energy/

Text B - https://genless.govt.nz/

Kawa of Care rule

This is my Kawa of Care google drawing. I had to choose one Kawa of Care rule and then make a google drawing about it. I first made the Chromebook and background, then I chose the rule. For people who don't know, the Kawa of Care is a contract that everyone who gets a Chromebook signs to say that you will take care of your Chromebook.

I enjoyed making the background and experimenting with colours. It was hard to do it all on time. To be BTB, I could have added more about keeping your food away

About Vanuatu

This year, our teacher is teaching us french. We had to look into french speaking countries then make an information slide about one. I chose Vanuatu because I went there two years ago for the summer holidays and I really enjoyed it. There are some really fun activities to do in Vanuatu. We went swimming with turtles, climbed and looked into Mt Yasur volcano, swam at Sulfur bay next to Imale village, made friends and chatted with the locals, rode in the back of a truck (many times), and more.

I enjoyed looking at pictures of Vanuatu because they reminded me of when I was there. The hardest part was finding good information. To be BTB, I could have added more info.
